School Part Re-Opening
Most children will not be returning to school in June.
The scientists who give advice to the government have today said that "Evidence on how likely children are to transmit the coronavirus remains ‘inconclusive’".
Our school is planning a very gradual re-opening IF the government ask us to open. For now they have only asked us to plan for when they ask and said that this won’t be for a date before June 1st.
It is impossible for the school to have no risk of coronavirus, but we have been working with the government guidance to reduce the risk as much as possible. I will send a full email with a more detailed outline to all families later today.
Half Term
The half term break has started and school is closed next week. There will be no online school on Seesaw and keyworkers accessing childcare already know that this facility will also be closed for the week.
For children, this should be a welcome rest from school work.
It will be a well-deserved rest for staff too - many of whom have been working constantly since February half term including cleaners, our site manager, our kitchen staff, office team, our teachers and assistants both on Seesaw and in keyworker childcare (sometimes both at the same time!). Our teachers have also been improving our curriculum ready for September and tracking what children will have missed to make sure they don’t fall behind from not being in school.
The final half term starts for all children on Wednesday 3rd June
School will re-open for children of Keyworkers and other key groups on Wednesday 3rd June. Online school will also restart on Wednesday 3rd June for everyone else.
On Monday 1st June and Tuesday 2nd June, school staff will be being trained in the government’s new health and safety rules to make sure school is as safe as it can be when it opens for more children.
Home Delivery of Paper Work
Because many staff will be returning to work in school next month, we will not be able to deliver paper packs of children’s work for children not on Seesaw. Instead, families will need to collect work from the main gate of school between 1000 and 1100 every Tuesday morning. If you cannot access Seesaw and need paper copies of work providing, please email Mrs Brook on office@victoriaprimaryschool.org.uk to ask for your copies.
Free School Meals Vouchers
The government have instructed schools not to give out free school meals vouchers for half term week. We recognise how hard this time is for families so we have decided that we will continue to issue vouchers to cover that week.
Goodbye to Mrs Dance
Today is cover teacher Mrs Dance’s last day at Victoria Primary School. She is saying goodbye to us so that she can say hello to her new baby! Mrs Dance has done a great job of helping our older children to improve their writing and has been a great cover teacher across school as well. We wish her and her family all the best with their exciting new arrival!
